What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used by the Chinese for many years to treat a great variety of problems. In recent years acupuncture has become more popular in the West and is used within Physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain, inflammation and as a means of enhancing the body's own healing chemicals in order to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.

Many people report a reduction in pain, improved sleeping pattern and a general well being boost with acupuncture. Research is now showing very positive results for treatment of specific areas with acupuncture.

Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Combined

Physiotherapists using acupuncture at North Lakes Physiotherapy are registered with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and have therefore had recognisable training.

Acupuncture is a useful adjunct to Physiotherapy, particularly in the treatment of inflammatory joint conditions. Reducing a patients' pain can enable them to achieve more in the rest of their Physiotherapy programme, such as increased range of movement and exercise tolerance.

Is Acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is safe when practiced by a member of The Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists [AACP] because of the strict hygiene guidelines, training courses and educational updates required to stay on the membership register.

Mike has been overseeing my personal fitness for several years, and following a skiing accident earlier this year is now also involved as a physio and trainer in my recovery. He has been very helpful in tailoring various exercises to my level of recovery, and is always upbeat and inspirational in his attitude. A pleasure to work with.
